Chat and share photos mid-call, with contact details masked automatically

Every TrueVibe call has a side chat where you can type and send photos without interrupting the video. Before a message reaches the other person, the server scans it for phone numbers, email addresses and social handles and replaces them with asterisks. Nobody can push their Snapchat or WhatsApp on you mid-call, and nobody can pressure a number out of you in one line of text.

What is contact masking?

Automatic redaction of contact details inside a message before it is delivered. The sender sees what they typed; the recipient sees the sentence with the number, handle or link replaced by asterisks.

What gets masked

Masking happens on the server, inside the database write, so it cannot be bypassed by a modified client or a copied link.

  • Phone numbers of seven digits or more, including spaced and dotted formats
  • Email addresses
  • Social profile links — Instagram, Snapchat, Telegram, WhatsApp, X and similar
  • Handle patterns such as '@name' and 'snap: name'

Photos in the call

  • Up to 8 MB per image, stored in a private bucket
  • Photos are served through short-lived signed links that expire after an hour
  • Only the two people in the call session can open them
  • Reporting a call attaches the chat context for moderators

Why masking instead of a ban on numbers

Blocking the word 'Instagram' would just push people into creative spellings. Masking the pattern means the pressure itself stops working: sending a number does not deliver a number. If two people genuinely want to swap details later, they can do it in direct messages once both have chosen to keep talking.

Using the in-call chat

  1. Open the chat panel

It sits beside the video, so you never have to leave the call.

  2. Type a message

Send links to what you are talking about, spell out a band name, or keep talking when your audio drops.

  3. Attach a photo

Pick an image up to 8 MB. It uploads privately and appears only in that conversation.

  4. Report if needed

The report button carries the conversation with it, so moderators see what actually happened.
